A self-declared Yash Chopra fan, Kunal Kohli has had a remarkable career thus far. He didn't have a great beginning with 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge', but surprised one and all with his dexterity in films like 'Hum Tum' and 'Fanaa'. 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' couldn't restructure the magic of 'Hum Tum', but all eyes are on his new outing 'Teri Meri Kahaani'. The question is, will he be able to strike a chord this time?

Preceding its release, the tittle-tattle went on an overdrive asserting that 'Teri Meri Kahaani' bears a striking semblance to the 2005 Taiwanese film 'Three Times', which featured three chronologically separate love stories. Both, the Hou Hsiao-Hsien directed project and Kunal's film are positioned over three time frames where the hero and the heroine find love in different circumstances. While the Taiwanese film was set in 1911, 1966 and 2005, 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is set in 1910, 1960 and present-day U.K.
But do the three stories connect with each other? Now that's one question that shouldn't be answered in a review. It may rob the film of its magnetism.
We have watched both the films and let us enlighten you that both are dissimilar to each other. Perhaps, the idea of three love stories in three different eras may have germinated from the Taiwanese film, but that's about it. The story and treatment of 'Three Times' is poles apart, while 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is the atypical love story that one is accustomed to watching. So, there. A happenstance in the subject matter doesn't make it analogous or a blatant replication, does it?
Independently and collectively, the three love stories divided in three different eras of 'Teri Meri Kahaani' do accomplish at portraying how our lives are influenced and even revolutionized by the times we live in. However, the film doesn't thrive on all accounts, there are a few dull moments [the present-day story stagnates after a point and the pacing tends to get unhurried, thus making you fidgety and impatient at times], but buried in its experimental storytelling and innate performances is a heartwarming tale that's gratifying and succeeds in planting a smile on your face. Especially the way Kunal concludes the three stories!
On the brighter side, there are no preceding births, nobody expires or recalls meeting earlier. The viewer is well aware that Shahid and Priyanka have met before, but the characters are completely clueless about the past.
Different eras are the crux of this motion picture. In fact, these eras take the account frontward. Each story tackles diverse times and societal principles and at least two stories -- the Poona and Punjab episodes -- keep you hooked [screenplay: Robin Bhatt and Kunal Kohli]. It's actually very unusual to experience a story which progresses in this fashion. This is a setting where one gets to witness the inventiveness and resourcefulness of a director. Without doubt, 'Teri Meri Kahaani' gives Kunal this break.
A special mention of the production design [Muneesh Sappel]. The sets created to depict the different eras is admirable. While recreating the pre-independence India must have been tough, Sappel has recreated the era of 1960s impeccably well. 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is, without doubt, one of the better albums by Sajid-Wajid. In fact, Sajid-Wajid and lyricist Prasoon Joshi make sure the soundtrack is extremely likeable, especially these tracks -- 'Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff', 'Mukhtasar', 'Allah Jaane' and 'Humse Pyaar Karle Tu'. Sunil Patel's cinematography is top notch. Dialogue, penned by Kunal Kohli, are poetic and romantic.
Not many actors get the opportunity to portray three diverse roles in a single movie. But Shahid carries each of those parts with refinement, besides looking debonair in each character. There is no quizzing his performing abilities either. He pulls the act with effortlessness and panache. As a matter of fact, whenever Shahid has attempted something diverse, the results have been luminous. From playing a musician in Bollywood to a compulsive flirt in Punjab to the unflustered and trendy youngster settled in U.K., Shahid does an exceptional job. Among the three characters, his take as Javed is sure to win him accolades.
As the spirited Aradhana of 1910, the dazzling movie star Rukhsar of 1960 or the joyful Radha of 2012, Priyanka is a complete livewire in each of the acts. What also makes the film work is the chemistry the two actors share. They appear exceptionally comfy with each other and bring to the table what the spectators are looking for.
Prachi Desai is sparkling in a cameo. Neha Sharma is decent. Vrajesh Hirjee does well. Surendra Pal is okay.
On the whole, 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is uncomplicated and charming. Not the usual romantic fare, this one presents three different stories in three different eras without getting theatrical or melodramatic. Thanks to its innovative storytelling, it comes across as the perfect date movie, holding tremendous appeal for the Facebook Gen. 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is pleasurable and fascinating in equal measures!

Gangs of Wasseypur 2012 bollywood Movie Review

The ApunKaChoice movie review of Gangs Of WasseypurKeh Ke Lunga. Don’t complain that you weren’t warned. Anurag Kashyap, the unabashed trasher of every stereotype that Hindi films thrive on, and the agent provocateur in the tribe of mainstream mockers, seems to rattle out this pithy warning to the audience of his overwrought, self-indulgent, but utterly entertaining piece of slam-bang cinema, Gangs of Wasseypur. It’s a film made with no-holds-barred, no-punches-pulled audacity, with smugness that skill and confidence breed. It’s a film that, though convoluted and circuitous, boasts of many fine sequences and wicked humour to make you kowtow to Kashyap, but not without a cautious eye on your backside.

Gangs of Wasseypur demands total surrender and undivided attention. So ignore the sweet nothings of your girlfriend or boyfriend, cast that cola and nachos aside, and take a plunge into the blood splattered world of Wasseypur, a lawless land riven by the feud between the butcherly Qureshis and the rest of the oppressed populace, out of which a stray rebel Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat) sows the seed of a protracted rivalry in the 1940s’ British India, a rivalry that blooms into a full-blown gangwar in 1960s, 80s, and to the present day.

The film opens rather amusingly, with sentimental claptrap by Smriti Irani’s character from Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi… cut short by raging gunfire by a bunch of rowdy louts out to wipe out a family. Then Anurag Kashyap trots out some gyan on the history of the powerful Qureshi tribe in Wasseypur that was once a part of Bengal, then passed to Bihar and finally to Jharkhand.

Shahid Khan, a pathan, takes on the might of the Qureshis in 1940s and goes on to become, from a dacoit, the trusted pehelwan of the coal-mine owner Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) in nearby Dhanbad. Since Shahid himself has an ulterior motive, he’s bumped off by his employer while his son grows up to be Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai) who’s vowed to avenge his father’s murder.

Driven by his vengeance and overactive hormones, Sardar builds his own ragtag gang against Ramadhir, but also sires two kids from his wife Nagma (Richa Chadda) and one from his mistress Durga ‘Bangalan’ (Reemma Sen).

The gang war sputters to life in the 60s and 70s when kattas, or country-made pistols, were weapons to reckon with -- despite them blowing off in the shooter’s hand -- and homemade bombs, with nails and lots of sulphur, caused damage enough to send the enemies scooting for cover. Our protagonist uses this to his advantage, but his foes aren’t slow to catch up.

There is much violence and gore in Gangs of Wasseypur. People are butchered and minced into pieces, just like buffaloes at a local slaughterhouse. Guns and bombs make the killing business a tad bit cleaner and quicker. Amid this bloodbath, there are tender moments as well, as you see Bajpai’s lusty Sardar woo Reemma’s tongue-tied ‘Bangalan’. My favourite moment is a daydream sequence between Nawazuddin Siddique and Huma Qureshi, as they get moony-eyed behind Ray Ban aviators as the popular song ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ from Amitabh Bachchan’s Muqaddar Ka Sikandar blares out in the backdrop.

Playing Sardar’s broody son, a pothead, and a reluctant heir to the family’s legacy of crime, Nawazuddin holds out the promise of a stellar performance in Gangs Of Wasseypur 2. This part, unequivocally, belongs to Manoj Bajpai. In a snap he turns from an intense marauder to a sheepish husband fearing his wife’s wrath, from a toughened rogue to a libidinous lecher. Other notable performances come from Richa Chadda, Piyush Mishra (as Sardar’s trusted hand) and Pankaj Tripathi (he plays the murderous Sultan Khan, the Qureshi kingpin).

Gangs of Wasseypur is incredibly well shot, has terrific music score (by Sneha Khanwalkar) and littered with humour and cuss words from start to end. The film does get overwrought with its slew of characters, history of trade unions, PSUs, coal mafia, dacoits and local rogues and politicos. What redeems the film is the master strokes by Kashyap -- coming at regular intervals -- in the form of brilliantly executed sequences, and finely extracted performances. Though violent and overlong, the film is a fairly enjoyable watch, and makes you look forward to the sequel.

Sakuni Review – Saguni Movie Review, Rating, Sakuni Telugu Film Review: Karthi’s latest Tamil film Saguni comes to Telugu as Sakuni. Praneetha, Prakash Raj, Radhika and others played important roles in this film. Here’s the review..

sakuni movie Story:
Kamal Krishna (Karthi) comes to ask the help of ministers to save his house from being taken by the government for a railway project. But the chief minister (Prakash Raj) insults him and throws him out. Kamal decides teach him a lesson and starts a political game. How does he win over the chief minister forms rest of the story.
sakuni film Analysis:

Sakuni is a political drama with entertaining elements. The film opens on an entertaining note and doesn’t bother about the story until the interval point. Actual story starts in the second half and it is mostly about the political game that is played by the hero.

Weak villain and poorly conceived scenes didn’t help the film to involve the audience in the story. Villain simply says that it is not right time to teach the hero a lesson. He doesn’t bother to take him out despite him being a threat to his power. Director didn’t try to narrate the story in a multidimensional format. The narration was too one sided in the entire film.

Director didn’t use the heroine thread in the second half. Roja’s character was completely forgotten in the second half. Villain doesn’t try to stop the hero and shatter his plans. Despite being a CM of the state he starts fearing that he would beat him.

This one dimensional dealing of the story didn’t generate interest and the film hardly engages. There were few references to the current state of politics and the people who follow politics may connect to those scenes. On a whole, except for few comedy dialogues Sakuni was disappointing.

sakuni cinema Performances:

Karthi was good in his role. Proper care should have been taken care on his characterization. There were sudden jumps in his character shades and that were not at all convincing. Praneetha was limited to songs. Prakash Raj was Okay. Radhika was good and so were Kota and another senior actor Nasser. Santhanam provided few laughs. Anushka played a cameo which was fine.

sakuni film Technicalities:

Prakash Kumar’s music was disappointing. Songs were very bad and the background score was the biggest drawback. Cinematography was good. Editing was adequate. Production values were nice and rich.

Shankar Dayal lacks the skills of storytelling. He took an interesting plot but failed to execute it well. A gripping screenplay could have done world of difference to this film.

Final Word:

Sakuni may appeal to the entertainment seekers. There were few decently canned scenes and humorous dialogues. But this film demands an engaging narration and that was completely missing. You may watch it if you have nothing better to do.

Sakuni Movie Rating: 2/5

----------
Tere rang aisa chadh gaya
Koi aur rang na chadh sake
Tera naam seeney pe likha
Har koi aake padh sakey

Hai junoon hai junoon hai
Tere ishq ka ye junoon hai
Rag rag mein ishq tera daudta
Yeh bawra sa khoon hai
Tune hi sikhaya sachai oo ka matlab
Tere paas aake jaana maine zindagi ka maksad
Satyamev, satyamev, satyamev jayate
Sacha hai pyaar tera, satyamev jayate

Tere noor ke dastoor mein
Na ho salwatein na shikan rahe
Meri koshishein toh hai bas yaheen
Rahein khushbooein gulshan rahe
Teri zulf suljhaney chala
Terey aur paas aaney chala
Jahan koi sur na ho besura
Woh geet main ganey chala

Tere rang aisa chadh gaya
Tha nasha jo aur bhi badh gaya
Teri barishon ka karam hai ye
Main nikhar Gaya main sanwar gaya
Jaisa bhi hoon apna mujhey
Mujhey ye nahin hain bolna
Kabil tere main ban sakoo
Mujhey dwaar aisa kholna
Sanson ki iss raftaar ko
Dhadkan ke iss tyohaar ko
Har jeet ko har haar ko
Khud apney iss sansaar ko
Badloonga main tere liye

Mujhey khud ko bhi hai tatolna
Kahin hai kami to hai bolna
Khahin dag hain toh chupayein kyon
Hum sach se nazrein hatayein kyon
khud ko badalna hai agar
Badloonga main tere liye
Sholon pe chalna hai agar
Chal doonga main tere liye
Mere khoon kee har boond main
Sankalp ho tere pyaar ka
Kato mujhey to too bahe
Ho surkh rang har dharrrr ka
